purchasing a used/ new car & insurance?

I heard that when you buy a new or used car - you have to have insurance on the car you are purchasing before it leaves the dealer lot? I heard that the car dealer no longer provides the 30 days insurance policy, meaning that when you purchase the car, you have to inform your car insurance first to make sure that they have it on record. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm not sure if it is true or not....your inputs will be great! By the way, I live in California.

  1. Yes you have to have insurance before you leave the lot with the car...some dealer may offer insurance, but at a very high cost.
  2. I guess you should check the insuranse quotes for the car before buying one, for example here: http://autoinsurance.hotusa.org Used cars have higher insurance rates.
