New Driver, Buying Used Car, How much is monthly insurance?

18 years of age, recently got my license more than a month ago. Looking into this 2003 Ford Taurus I found at a dealership (4 door).... Parents are saying insurance will cost around $300 a month! excluding the car payment which will be around $200 a month. For some reason, I don't believe them what so ever with the cost of the insurance. I do have to get full coverage insurance. But thats just ridiculous. New drivers, how much do you pay for insurance. Only answer if your on your own plan.

  1. Why the [profane] would you buy a FORD TAURUS????? I think you should instead consider a fabulous Lexus ES250 Insurance for my Lexus ES250 is around $95 per month ($566 for 6 months; you pay for car insurance once every six months) I am on my own plan, and I do not have full coverage, only liability. When I first got my license about 5 years ago, it was around $700 for six months (about $125 per month) You DO have to get full-coverage if you buy a pretty new car because the financing company or dealer require it; on the other hand, older cheaper vehicles, like my fabulous Lexus ES250, you can drop comp/collision insurance My car, to buy, cost $2000, no car payments!!!!! AS for the price you quoted, you CAN believe them; that is about right for full coverage, especially in NJ which is famous for its high car insurance rates!!!
  2. In my opinion, you should compare quotes before buying your insurance. My friend used http://www.nationalinsurancesite.com/search/ to compare companies. He's currently with geico. Give them a try. They may be able to help you out.
  3. Hi, Good post. I had some problems with my car after I had an accident. My Insurer wanted to raise my rates $525 a year! I've never even gotten a speeding ticket! I looked for a new provider and found this website: http://www.ironless.com They compare all of the major insurance providers and give you the best deal. I ended up saving over $300 from what I was previously paying (that's $825 a year!). Good Luck
