I am a 15 year old, on Cape Cod, and I was wondering is a 65-67 mustang right for a new car?
I have loved mustangs since i was little, and i have always dreamed of having one for my first car. There are two issues that are swirling in my head, insurance, and gas. I understand mustangs of that age got like 12-15 MPG, and it will be expensive to fill up. But my concern that i do not know is, can i drive a mustang as a "commuter" car? I have seen insurance policies for classic cars and they have limitations on the amount of miles you can drive a year. Can you just buy a normal insurance policy on an old car, one with unlimited mileage? P.S. I know the danger with an old mustang, no airbags, ESC, drum brakes. But i do have experience in driving, I have driven in Syria, and if you can drive there, you can drive anywhere. I am ALSO interested in an automatic. Thank you Oh and I was also wondering about the cost to fix somthing on the car, I.E. body work, or a simple oil change.

- No, too expensive to maintain. Get a fairly modern Toyota and you will have far fewer repair bills. It won't be sexy, but it will run "forever" (I put 176,234 miles on my 1989 Toyota Corolla).
- A 65-67 Mustang is a great car but I will point out some things you might not have thought about. First, a lot of the mustangs from those years had the straight 6 cylinder engines in them which were really reliable and got around 20-25 MPG and insurance would be cheaper. I know you probably want one with the V8 in it, but the straight 6 may be a better fit for your purposes. Second, if you truly love a classic car then you will want to take into account the amount a "wear and tear" you will inflict on the car driving it as a commuter car. And finally about the insurance, you can get normal coverage but expect to have the car totaled and not get as much for the car if anything were to happen. I hope this helped you make your decision.
