Do you find women only car insurance sexist?
Personally I do. For a start their buisiness is based around the idea that women are safer drivers even though what gender you are does not affect your driving, also all of the TV adverts for this insurance have sexist comments in them. If it had been the other way round and these car insurances were exclusive to men there would have been protests and accusations of sexism but because typically women are the victims of sexism it has gone unnoticed.
Public Comments
- yes
- I think it's messed up and I'm a woman
- Damn statistics proving that men cause and are involved in more accidents, get far more tickets and are generally less safe than women drivers. Damn statistics.
- Definitely. When I was divorced decades ago, my car insurance tripled. The ex-husband's rate stayed the same. It was all based on divorced women being emotional and unstable.
- Well, yes, it's sexist by the very right that the differentiation comes from gender. I don't think it's necessarily bad sexism, though - at least not for an insurance company. Insurance companies decide on rates based on an analysis of statistics. If women really do get in fewer accidents than men do, that makes them a safer risk.
- I have heard of a few off beat theories about woman having lower rates, red colored cars have higher, and non-sence like that but there is actually a car insurance that just insures woman? That doesn't seem right at all....
- Believe me, gender does make a difference to driving , as does age. the insurance companies are not in the business for the good of their health, they are out to make a healthy profit out of all of us. The reason that they can offer discounted insurance for us ladies is that we cost less, we actually have more accidents, but they tend to be minor and therefore cost less to settle. Youngsters have more and that's why it costs so much to insure if you are a young driver. If the TV ads have sexist comments in them, then I would complain to the people who regulate the ads, I agree that this bit isn't fair, but you need to get your voice heard in the right places.
- Now you know how it feels! In the meantime, do the research and you will find what the insurance companies already know and base their rates on......the female driver is the safer driver. Talk to your agent and let them explain it to you.
- Actually, insurence for women used to be cheaper because women are better drivers. Insurance companies had to stop because it was sexist.
