Why do women get lower Auto insurance rates?

Why do women get lower car insurance rates I'm a 23y/o male and pay the same rate as a 20 y/o female and I have a clean record. I found that it is roughly 15-20% for the opposite sex, and even women with violations can still manage to have a lower rate than men who have clean records. Is there any real reason behind this or just another way Auto insurance companies like to take our money.

  1. Statistics. Young women have less accidents than young men.
  2. Because women are better drivers!!!!!!!!!!
  3. In general, more men are reckless with cars than women.
  4. One word. Testosterone Insurance companies think your more likely to race that guy at the stop light, get caught looking at the hot girl waking down the street and end up rear ending the car in front of you or get angry and do something stupid due to road rage. Personally I in the sake of womens lib think rates should be equal. Since there are no differences in Men and Women lets prorate our higher rates off on all the Females and average out our rates. Who's with me???
  5. Statistically women are better drivers. Not all women, just more women drive better than most men.
  6. Some states don't allow rate differences by gender. The states that do, allow it for the same reason they allow insurance companies to charge more for a 16 year old than a 30 year old - higher accidents. It's all about the numbers. Lower credit scores increases the likelihood of claims. Being 16 increases the likelihood of claims. Being SINGLE increases the likelihood of claims. Being MALE increases the likelihood of claims (for car insurance). Heck, you pay more for your LIFE INSURANCE, too, because women live longer. It's all about the raw numbers.
  7. They don't EVERYWHERE - in MA, for example, women and men pay the same for car insurance, just like they pay the same for life insurance, even though men are more likely to die sooner. Gender basis for rates vary by states. MA prohibits having different rates based on gender.
