why is it that women pay less for car insurance than men?
Public Comments
- They have fewer accidents.
- because we are more careful drivers, less of an ego lets say!! :p
- Because they apparently safer drivers then men
- Because they are classed as less of a risk - you don't get many "girl racers". Except it's normally the women who CAUSE the accidents!!
- we r better drivers
- They drive less and have fewer accidents.
- For the most part because we have fewer accidents and are more mature than men. Your insurance goes down after you get married. Funny how men used to always make fun of "women drivers".
- women are the best
- they dont, if you check out the women only insurance brokers you would find that its cheaper to go with one who caters for both men and women, the women only insurance brokers just try and con you into thinking they are cheaper when in fact for me they were all going to charge me around £200 more than a normal broker
- It's not that they're better drivers, that's too simplistic. Statistically speaking women have fewer accidents, but that could also be down to women driving less AS WELL AS being safer.
- Statistics show they are less likely to be involved in an accident - believe me, they keep meticulous records on this kind of stuff. It's one of the ways for the auto carriers to price their products.
- cause men are maniacs and women are sensible
- Haven't you heard the Sheila's Wheels song?? "Women make the safest drivers, You can save a bunch of fivers", etc, etc. God that adverts lame!
- because they are less likely to have accidents that will result in big payouts having to be made to the opposition.
- Simple.... because we are better and more careful drivers, thus less accidents, less payments to be paid out!
- Because we are great!!!
- Women tend to drive less quickly. Although they actually have equal numbers of accidents to men, (for the amount of driving they do), they tend not to write off cars as much. Mind you, most of the write-offs I know about have been at the hands of a female.
- It's not that "they are better drivers" and not even because they "get into fewer accidents" as some have said above but because the accidents they get into are usually at lower speeds and produce less damage. You could actually argue that women are subject to more accidents because statically they tend to drive around with kids and do more errands driving then men. But theses are typical of fender benders. Men, on the other hand are naturally more aggressive and prone to drive slightly faster then women, so accidents tend to be more serious.
- because Women tend to have fewer severe accidents, moving violations, and tend to follow speed limits/rules of the road better than men
- Women have less to prove & don't pose when they drive, so less accidents
- Women tend to be two extremes when driving, either very good or downright dangerous. Men and women have different types of accidents. Male drivers often involve speed, hence higher payouts, women have accidents negotiating obstacles, like parking. Put a woman in an empty car park the size of Heathrow, one post in the middle and she'll hit the post. Also there are less female drivers, but as the numbers are evening up, insurance companies are finding that women do have as many accidents as men, especially the ladette.
- Well, statistics do indeed show they have less accident, less tickets, therefore their rates are lower. But if you gather the raw data and really look at it--the real reason is THEY DRIVE LESS.
- according to national surveys women get into fewer accidents although the truth is women r worse drivers..
- women tend to mature earlier and therefore are more responsible and so tend to be better drivers
- It must be because women statistically have fewer accidents than men.
- Because although we women have an equal number of accidents ours tend to be minor dents at low speed, rather than full on high speed write offs that are usually involving men, sorry guys but I know you find it annoying that we scratch the alloys on the pavement when we park but it costs less to repair than when you run into the car you were chasing down the road at 60mph!!
- That's not the case anymore. Before cell phone days it was. Now women cause more accidents than men because they are constantly on the cell phone and flipping SUVs because they were cleaning up ice cream their kids spilled on the dashboard. The tides have turned on insurance rates.
- Us men have a more risk of a write off
- statistically they are less of a risk...then again the only car ive had written of was crashed into by a woman n my rates went up....hmmmmmmm insurance paid it off though, prob shouldnt have went for the pricey 2 litre afterwards though
- Because - When a woman has a bump - 9/10 times its a Guy who she runs into - and ..you know the rest .. Most guys when confronted with a hysterical (attractive) woman needing assistance- are only to eager to help with getting the car back on the road, without having to make a claim...
- There is no good reason. They're said to be involved in fewer accidents because there are less female drivers and generally drive less powerful cars but this kind of company won't be going much longer because lawsuits are being started against them for discrimination. There are actually no figures that officially show women have less accidents, thats a myth that grew into a mythical fact. Whether you're male or female makes no difference, its just a gimmick to get people to use your company and you'll often find that women only insurers are no cheaper than normal ones.
- I agree with Emmamac we pay just as much insurance it's just a big con for you men to think we pay less insurance that sheilas wheels advert sucks
- because they are better drivers of course
- This is obviously a bloke asking this question and by the sound of it between the age of 17 and 25. The dummy sex and the best of the dummy years. Listen carefully and try to understand. Women are better drivers that us men statistically. You don't see many women with hats on the wrong way round trying to get the car round the corners at race track speed on bald tyres whilst on the phone to another stupid mate with a hat on the wrong way round, that happens to be in the same car with you. All this being done whilst listening to the sound system that has cost you more than the car and the insurance and the hat put together at a volume that bursts the windows of property as you pass. Perhaps if you all tried to drive a little better and make the roads safer for everyone your insurance would be more realistic.
- Most of your replies complement women by saying things like women have less accidents, are more careful, are more sensible etc and it is all bullshit. The real reason is simply that women put in less driving hours per week than men.
