Car Insurance for Young Drivers; How much do you pay? (UK)?
I'm planning on getting a car later this year just after I've passed my test (I'm 17). I just want a small, cheap car- something like a Ford Ka or an old Vauxhall Corsa. I just wondered if anyone's got a good cheap deal cos it looks like it's going to cost me loads.

- it depends on your postcode, go on moneysupermarket.com, they will tell you the cheapest deals
- Try http://www.confused.com and http://www.moneysupermarket.com to compare against other companies how much insurance will cost.
- Hi Insurance is probably going to cost you more than a decent runner - as a young driver with no no claims you are considered a pretty bad risk. The cheapest I could see for 3rd party fire & theft on a 2002 Ford Ka for a 17 year old who's just passed their test is 2300... Confused.com is very good - however you might benefit from speaking to an insurer that specialises in younger drivers such as http://www.4youngdrivers.co.uk/. You could also consider being put on as a named driver on someone else's insurance - this might work out a lot cheaper. Best of luck!
- Average prices for a 17 year old driving a Corsa 1.0 L £1320.00, Fiat Uno £1330.00 these are 3rd party fire&theft you might get a discount if you park off road have an alarm fitted limit your milage but look around and if you dont ask you wont get a discount
- you could try elephant they did a really good deal for my daughter £400 when she was learning, although it was an old car. you have to shop around, never take the first price and ask others to beat the best price you have at the time, some will come down and some wont.
- Get pass plus. and look at Institute of advanced motorists. Both will help sav you money. As for a car, newer cars are cheaper to insure because they are safer and parts are cheaper to come by. My mum has a 4 year old skoda fabia 1.4 manual, costs nothing to run and never even coughs out of place. She pays £60 insurance a year!!! and I (20 year old male) pay just £400. Honestly, its got the golf's chassis and is made to the same spec but because its got a skoda badge its half the price and much cheaper to run. Just have a look, if not pick another insurance group 1 car. Small clios are group 1 i think.
