How much is insurance for young men drivers?

I want to get a new car and im 18 years old. My dad says he wont put me on his insurance if i buy a new car but insurance on a new car will be like $400 a month!!!! I have no accidents or tickets my record is clean. Is this normal? I dont live in a bad area and it is a convertible pontiac g6. ThanX

1. this is very normal. when you get married and/or turn 25 it'll drop. shop arround a bit but it's about average for a young buck.
2. When an insurance company looks at you, and see that you have a convertible, your insurance will automatically go up due to a higher risk in getting seriously injured in accidents. Also the fact that you are a guy, it will be higher than a girl's insurance rate would be
3. sorry bruh . Men have it bad when it come to insurance. This is normal. I was 21 with a ford focus. $5000 a yr. w/o any accidents and a clean record. I dont know where u work but, u could possibly get car ins through ur job. some companies offer a discount. u dont have to put anything down and they use payroll deduction.
