How can I save money on my car insurance?
I'm a young driver who's only just passed. Is it OK to put my Dad as the main driver when in reality I will be driving the car most of the time? I heard it's cheaper that way. Also I know Pass Plus can decrease it. Does putting it in a garage and having good security decrease it? What other things can I do to save - the cheapest quote so far I found is £1,600! Sorry but why will I regret putting him as the main user? How will they actually know?

- AsK your Dad to check on joining AAA travel service, then if you want car insurance quotes it is cheaper with them for being a member. Worth a shot, get as many quotes as possible and keep your record good as possible. *mamatx
- Plenty of young drivers have there parents has main driver. Also keeping your car in a garage knocks money off. That quote is disgusting. Our son was on with my husband it cost an extra couple of hundred. Good Luck
- Listing someone else as the primary driver will help. The insurance companies are not necessarily fooled, but it is a common misdirection. Putting the car in a garage will help, it is less likely to to vandalaized or stolen. An alarm may help, if it is an expensive car. You can lower your rates by raising your deductable. Certainly you should drive carefully and avoid speeding tickets and accidents. Do yourself and everybody else a favor and never drive after you have been drinking.
- pass plus can save you a lot of money in the long run, so definately think about that. security is also good to think about, if its locked up its less likely to get stolen or damaged. if you get a car that is 15 years or older, its classed as a classic car and classic car insurance is really cheap, my brother insured his morris minor for about £200 when he was 18, and it was his first car. Dont put your dad as the driver if you drive it most of the time coz you'll regret it if you need to claim.
- Car insurance is always a complete ripoff these days and although its illegal the only cheap way round it is to not have any lol
- For automobile insurance the best way to get a very good rate is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make certain that you compare similar options with the same deductibles, car model, location, etc so that all options are an accurate comparison. What I most often recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.lowratetoday.com since they have lots of insurers and will give several prices on auto insurance polices.
- by switching to geico!
- Putting yourself as a named driver will be cheaper now, but in the long run (i.e. 2/3 years) it is better to try and build up your own no claims discount. Insurance is ridiculously expensive but you can reduce it: Fit a tracker to your car, although fairly expensive this will significantly reduce your premium; and yes keeping your car in a garage will also decreace your premium. Try comparison sites such as moneysupermarket, gocompare and confused
- Switch to Geiko. LOL!
- It is cheaper to have the insurance on your dads name but I would say if you can afford it insure the car yourself so you can start getting your no claims bonus. They say parking the car in a garage will drop your premium but that is the worst place to park a car as if someone breaks in to the garage they can jam the door shut and no one can see them and it's giving them longer to steal the car. To have the insurance drop your premium you will need a thatcham category-1 alarm and they can cost a couple of hundred pounds as they are the best.I no how you feel having to pay all that to insure the car as when i had my first car i only paid £500 for it and they wanted £1000 to insure it third party only.
- insure in your own name to earn NCB as quickly as possible increase the excess to the maximum possible. this is the amount you pay yourself for any claim. think long-term. if you have an accident, it pay be cheaper to pay for the repair instead of claiming on insurance, to keep building your no-claims. make sure your cover is for the driving you do. EG if it is for leisure only and not business or commuting. some companies offer a low rate for people who only drive a few miles a year, say 5000 get a low-group car, such as a Micra or a Smart. It is not for ever. Pass the Institute of Advanced Motorists' test. get third-party cover try Endsleigh
- some parents put their kids on their insurance, then the kids work and pay their share to the parents.
- What are you driving? male/female - these factors matter! i would drive less than a 1.4, if you put your dad as the main driver that is ok but make sure you can get no claims bonus (directline do this) as this will lower your premium in the long run. also security and locking away in garages will lower your premium, i wouldnt do pass plus because they are about 250 quid to do so what you save you will be paying in that. Also £1600 is a little steep but dont expect it cheap i paid £1200 on a 1.2 fiesta r reg a few yrs ago when i passed. Also think about if you crashed would you actually claim?? if not go third party fire and theft. because i crashed my fiesta and never claimed as it would have put my ins up to about £3000! wasnt worth it, if i had have known that earlier i wouldnt have gone fully comp!

- Good experience you might get here.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/car-insurance-free.htm
- HELLO IN THE OLD DAYS THAT WOULD NOT HAVE HELPED AS YOUR DAD WOULD HAVE BUILT HIS NO CLAIMS BUT YOU WOULD NOT IF YOU INSURE IT IN HIS NAME AS MAIN DRIVER AND YOUR SELF AS NAMED DRIVER THAT IS INDEED ILLEGAL BUT ADDING YOUR NAME WOULD ONLY BE A ADMIN CHARGE IF YOU GO TO THE RIGHT COMPANY THESE DAYS YOU WOULD ALSO BUILD NO CLAIMS IN YOUR OWN RIGHT DON'T KNOW WHAT PASSPLUS IS? IF ITS GARAGED THAT WOULD ALSO BE CHEAPER MOST EXPENSIVE IS FULL COMP BUT THIS MAY BE ONLY WAY TO BUILD YOUR NO CLAIMS AT THE SAME TIME NEXT IS THIRD PARTY FIRE AND THEFT LOWEST IS THIRD PARTY ONLY CHECK AND GET LEGAL REPRESENTATION EVAN IF YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT THE HIGHER THE EXCESS THE LOWER INSURANCE COSTS BUT IF YOU HAVE AN ACCIDENT YOU HAVE TO PAY THAT AMOUNT AND CLAIM BALANCE FOR REPAIRS EACH TIME
- If you want to get it really cheap, visit: http://carinsurances.usenxt.info I got mine there and ahve not seen any cheaper. Hope helps
- 1600 - is too much... You can try this company - http://carinsurance.yoll.net - I personally have their car insurance in London. As I know they have more affordable insurance policies for teens and first time drivers.
- well...if your father is ready to accept the fact that he might lose his no claim bonus, they yes please do it. How do they know ? well, you can try to fake a claim or slighly light on your accident report...but if things are found out... Your premium plus your dad premium will go up for a few long years. The economy being what it is at the moment, insurance are facing a huge increase in fake claim...they are therefore suspicious on ALL claims. check here: http://www.financecomparator.co.uk/carinsurance.html Tesco Car insurance should give you a great deal regarding your circumstances
