Do I need to by car Insurance for my teen? We are in Colorado.?
In Colorado do I need car insurance for my teen or do I just insure the car? The research I've done all says that the VEHICLE has to be insured but it doesn't say anything about the DRIVER. This doesn't make sense to me but almost every website says it's the vehicle that has to be covered. Does my son need to be specifically named on the policy?

- I would say yes, in the instance he was in a car accident all involved would be covered. Call your agent and find out.
- I don't know for sure about Colorado but PA the driver must be insured along with the car. I would say it would be the same case in Colorado. Call your insurance agent to confirm.
- yes any person that drives the car should be included in the policy otherwise any accident that could happen and the person is not included you will be getting sued for every damage.
- I bet so, So rather safe than sorry... If your teen is to drive the car you better list them on your policy and also you might have a rate change! Good Luck!
- you take out the policy on the auto and the child needs to be listed as a driver. this covers her to drive the car.
- Any driver in the household should be insured; you are right. He/she doesn't need to be the "Named Insured" on your policy but should be a listed driver. Your teen cannot operate a vehicle legally without having coverage on a particular car. The problem is that if there is a problem the insurance company can deny the claim since he/she isn't covered.
- Your insurance policy only covers drivers listed on the policy. You have to list your teen or have him/her excluded from coverage. If you list your teen, your rates will go up. If excluded, the teen can't drive that vehicle - EVER. They would not be covered in the event of an accident.
- You add your son to the policy if he will be driving an existing vehicle. If he is getting his own vehicle, also add it to the policy. Any licensed driver not living at your address, can drive any of your vehicles(with your permission) without being named on your policy. But, any licensed driver living at your address MUST be named on the policy. The policy is assigned to the vehicles. If you need more info, click on my image and email me.
