Are most teen drivers insured?
I'm 19 and my dad will not let me drive or buy a car for me because he does not want me to drive without insurance, and he cannot afford to pay for the insurance. And neither could I. However, I have many friends who have cars and drive without car insurance. My question is are most teen drivers insured or not insured? All my friends are my age and as a matter of fact, I dont know a single one that HAS insurance.

- I just got my liscence a little over three months and my insurance in costing me 122 dollars a month plus a 200 dollar truck payment
- In most states actually Im pretty sure all states in the United states Everyone has to have insurance unless you have over 100,000 dollars in assets that you would rather put as collateral instead of insurance
- most teenagers are listed on their parent's insurance until they move out on their own. My teenage daughter works part time to pay for her insurance. You can usually get discounts if you took driver's training or are a full time student with good grades. It is expensive, but imagine how expensive it would be to repair your car or someone elses if you have an accident. Most states have very strict laws regarding insurance and you wouldnt even be able to register the car without showing proof of insurance.
- I would be surprised if all the teenagers I see driving to school everyday are insured--unless their parents make a heck of a lot more money than me. My son didn't get his license until he was 18 years old. At that point, I added him to my policy. I have never had a ticket and never had an accident, but my credit wasn't the best. To add my son to my policy, it raised my premium from $100/month to $323/month. How do people afford that? I live in Kentucky and they wouldn't let me take him off my policy unless he surrendered his license. What a crock! So, basically, if you're young, you don't even get a chance to screw up before you're punished!
- Most teens are insured on their parents policy. If they're not, then they are in a state that allows them to be excluded from their parents policy. In this case, if the teen were to drive the parents vehicle, there would be no coverage. Some states require everyone to have insurance. I live in a state that doesn't require it. Insurance for teenage boys tends to run about twice as much as insurance for teenage girls. My advice is to get a cheap vehicle where you can just put liability only on it and be insured under your parents policy and don't get any tickets or accidents. That would be the cheapest way to be insured as a teen. Another question...you're 19....why would your dad buy you a vehicle? Go get a job and buy your own car and get your own insurance.
- Not all states require insurance. TN is one of the states that are considered as NOT AT FAULT states. That means that you do not have to have insurance as they do not make the determination as to who was at fault. That is for the courts and lawyers to decide. I know, though, that in OK and KS it is against the law to operate a vehicle without valid insurance. In fact, if your tag is up in these two states, then you can not renew them. And I am just guessing here with you being 19 and from your question, YOU ARE NOT RICH ENOUGH AND YOUR FATHER IS NOT RICH ENOUGH TO AFFORD TO PAY UPWARDS OF $50,000 FOR REPLACING A TOTALED MERC PLUS $100,000+++++ IN MEDICAL, LOST TIME AT WORK, RENTAL CAR, AND ATTORNEY FEES FOR THE PARTY THAT YOU HIT. Now, they do have what is called non owners insurance. If you can prove that you do not have a vehicle that is in your name, then you can get it. And that will cover you for ANY vehicle that you drive, whether or not it is insured by the owner or not.
- It depends on the location. I know for sure that most driving in Las Vegas have insurance because you must have it to get a plate and if you cancel it the insurance company notifies DMV.
