Buying a teen a new car?

I want to buy my son another new car. I would like to know what is the best safety rated car and most reasonable in insurance as well as good gas mileage. He has a 2006 Scion XA now and the insurance seems a little high ($200 monthly). I worry about other drivers on the road as I am a single father and I'm overly protective of my boy. Any ideas? Buying him a new car is my choice. And no he doesn't need a new car every year. My reason for changing from a Scion to a different car is because I filled out a customer satisfaction survey for my dealership and expressed how unhappy I was with the buying process and they responded by "telling" me never come back to their dealership again. So, since I'm in Alaska and we only have one dealership here in Anchorage, my warranty is basically useless. My son, has been professionally trained my me, and I am a professional driver not to mention very critical of every thing I teach him. Thanks

  1. Dodge Magnum, PT Cruiser both got 10's in reliability and all around. There pretty cheap too.
  2. Get rid of the Scion , its a death trap . I work in an E.R. and a lot of kids have those and go too fast and hit non moving things. Get him a used truck , not expensive , very safe , and cheap insurance .
  3. all young men (under 24) will have high insurance because they are at the highest risk for an accident statisicly. Personally I don't thing any parrent should buy their child a car when their a teenager. (especially if they have one) If you really have that much money to burn, give it to a charity. Teens need to learn the value of a dollar, and independance. Spoiling them, and paying for everything for them will give them a warped shape of the real world. I have met too many people that have no common sense because they've never had to get a job, or pay for anything themselves.
  4. Dodge magnum R/T is the best bang for the buck And since it is a 4 door the rates will be less.
  5. I think the insurance is high BECAUSE he is a teenager. Don't you remember what it was like when you were a kid with a car? I didn't start getting cheaper rates until my late 20's, as a single male. That's very nice that you want to get him another new car. I'd think the Scion would still be a good car for him. I'd let him keep the Scion he has, and just put the money saved to the higher insurance rates!! Does the kid need a new car every year? Or is he just out of the teeny-bopper stage and wanting a more serious car? I know it's an old joke, but the safest car is a 1985 Olds 88, because it has enough metal on it to build a Sherman tank. The huge cars are safer because there's more of them to absorb the impact. I've seen a Toyota Camry just crumple up in a side accident. That's why side air bags are now standard, because they're needed so bad. But that doesn't mean that new cars are death traps. They build the cars to crumple easily, to absorb impact energy. Plus the many air bags DO help keep people alive. So, yes, a new car is much safer. But I still think the Scion is good enough for him for few years more.
  6. You should worry just as much about your teen and the risk he poses to others. Male teens are statistically the most dangerous drivers on the road. When you by a huge vehicle to protect your son, you also assure that if he crashes into another vehicle, its occupants will sustain the greatest possible injuries. May I suggest a Subaru Forester as a good compromise? It is a lighter mini-SUV with excellent crash ratings.
  7. Wow you seem like your ballin! get him an H2, they consume allot cash but i can say he will be safe in there.
  8. The best thing to do is search it on the, go for an online quotation. You can try to park on this site http://www.nightbirdssolutions.com to collect different car insurance prices. Evaluate and choose the company that could give you a much cheaper car insurance for your car.
  9. I am 18 with $2400 a year insurance... so its a pretty standard price...no matter what you get it'll probably be the same...I know this b/c i am insuring a 1969 Dodge Charger and it is a 2-door, lap seatbelts, and all drum brakes..Every year of being insured his insurance will drop a bit, aslong as he doesnt have any tickets...but getting him a 4-door E36 or E46 bmw m3 wouldnt be a real bad idea b/c its got great handling and if he has been taught how to drive good he should be able to get out of accidents by manuvering..and the 4-door would poss. lower insurance..and its not bad looking..
  10. I wouldn't get a new car. I got a used car (a 2002 camaro) when I was 15 years old. I paid 127 dollars on it every month. It was mainly that low since it was paid for. My suggestion get him a car he likes but used. Just have mechanic inspect it.
