Where, oh where to start...?

Hey, I am a marginally nerdy teen girl whose looking to get into the wonderful world of comics. I am sick of catching s**t for being in manga only. But here's the thing...I have limited resources and am foot bound until I turn sixteen in a few months and get my license... and a car... and insurance. So does anyone have any advice for me on A) where to start or B) where to get my comics on the net... Any help would be much appreciated. My interests (in manga at least) run towards the shonen side (thats comics for boys, for all you western comic purists), but I am not so picky that I won't go for comics targeted towards girls. Unless its like "Becky Blossoms!". In which case I'll vomit. Thank you in advance! I'm more interested in western Comics. I've been reading manga for a while and I want to start the change over.

3. You should look up The Sandman from Veritgo Comics. It's long since ended, but it was brilliant. You can find a lot of trade collections for really cheap (rather than hunting down back issues) at www.instocktrades.com. Some other titles I enjoy: Marvel: The Immortal Iron Fist Captain America Thor Iron Man New Avengers Amazing Spider-Man (may be a bit pricey as it comes out 3 times a month now.) Uncanny X-Men X-Factor DC: Booster Gold Green Lantern Justice League of America Justice Society of America Indie: The Walking Dead (Image Comics) True Story, Swear To God ( I can't remember hwo puts this out.. it's basically the autobiography of the guy who writes it) The Goon (Dark Horse Comics. A hilarious mix of gangsters and the supernatural.) The Middle Man (Viper Comics) Oddly Noraml (Viper Comics. This is only comign out in collected Graphic Novel form now, no more single issues.)
