Is this another case of .. It is never your fault? Or take the insurance company for all your bad behavior?

Daddy is suing the insurance company to pay for the damages to his Lexus, caused when his 19 year old private school teenager led police on a high speed chase through red lights and major intersections. The teen, lying near a pellet gun or air rifle, was arrested on 16 charges on Dec. 1, 2003. After pleading guilty to DUI and evading police,the teen received probation and community service. Now daddy wants the insurance company to foot the bill for $12,612 not his wayward teen , who had a history of drug possession, speeding tickets , wrecks and this told story: All that I remember was that I didn't stop," in the sworn statement. "I knew if I got another speeding ticket, my dad was going to sell my car." Would it surprize anyone to know this was a teenage girl? I can feel sorry for dad, but his "princess" should pay. This isn't a 16 yr old . She was 19 - an adult fully capable of getting a job and making payments for the damage SHE did.

1. I would make her pay. But you can't squeeze water from a stone just like you can't squeeze 12 grand from a 16 year old, so if his insurance policy covers it and he needs to repair the car then I can't begrudge his effort.
2. the dad should make the kid pay. If he can't sell the car anymore..sell all of the other crap she no doubt has. Another question though? is teen on the policy? if so..the company should pay part of it. but I would make the kid pay just to avoid the hike in insurance premiums.

4. If he had insurance on the car, the insurance company should pay, and then they (the insurance company)can sue the girl. Insurance companies rip people off every day and if there is a legitimate claim than they should pay. The girl should pay, but the dad was right to turn it into his his insurance. That is what he bought it for. To insure there would be money enough to fix his property no matter who damaged it.
5. My daughter got luckly stopped by the cops for 76 in a 45. I have taken her permit for 6 months. The court only took it for 3 months. To a lot of parents nothing their children do is their fault. The belief is the police should not have been chasing her and the wreck would never have happened. Oh by the way Insurance companies will not cover damage done by illegal actions by the owner. Only the vehicles that are involved other than.
6. that is nuts!!! it's folks like him that "Dont' get it" that cause the rest of us "HONEST" drivin accident folks to pay high premiums. Insurance companies are getting harder and harder on folks because of frivilous lawsuits like his!! If his kid, was putting the cops on a police chase and clearly caused the accident, why should htey have to pay for it ?? why can't the laws protect them!! If he is trying to make THEM pay and having to "SUE" to do it, then we see why his daughter has the issues she has, her reasoning comes from her daddy. After all the apple never does fall far from the tree. she'll have kids someday, that will learn her morals and values and we will continue with the same path!!
