Parents and drivers in general....what do you think of this?

I heard that parents can now buy and install a mini camera in their teen's car that will monitor their driving and alert if the teen is driving too fast, recklessly, etc. I think it's a great idea, because let's face it: teen drivers are horrible and dangerous. I'm 25 now, and no sooner had I turned 25 and my insurance rates finally lowered then I was rear-ended by a 17 year old girl who was doing what instead of driving? That's right: texting her boyfriend. So thanks to her stupidity my car was just about totaled. And before you attempt the "Right to Privacy" thing with me: minor teens that are fully dependent on mommy and daddy don't have any privacy rights as far as I'm concerned. Bring on the cameras.

  1. cameras are too far, just a chip to monitor speed is enough
  2. Good idea.
  3. I think that it is a good idea and would encourage more responsible driving habits. Though some parents may be disturbed with how their children are driving.
  4. well sure, but its all up to the parents if they want to do that. I mean as long as it is the parent's car. but when they turn 18 and they are driving their own car, you can't just put cameras everywhere.
  5. i think people should not be on their phones while driving. period. it's so dangerous because your attention is now turned to your phone when it should be on the road and your surroundings.
  6. I dont mind the cameras wait does that mean I can no longer Race?
  7. I wouldn't do it... at some point you have to allow them freedom and trust their judgement. Constant mistrust tells your child he/she is untrustworthy.
  8. Make them walk..lol
  9. I think theres entirely too much time, effort, and research going into making sure that there are no sharp corners left in the world.
  10. Totally agree with what you said. Also heard a few years ago that a group of parents put bumper stickers on their cars that said "if you see my teen driving badly call*** And the number went directly to that parent. I say more of it as there are far to many teen drivers who think their invincible but they break just like the rest of us.
  11. its a good idea as it helps to reduce accidents
  12. Its a very good idea. If you are under 18 and maybe even over that if you depend on your parents, then cameras are good. Children under 18 do not have a right to privacy from their parents. Thats why they arent considered an adult. If I had a camera in my car I probably wouldnt have gotten in so much trouble..... I would have thanked them now.....
  13. I have no problem with parental control of minor children. As a matter of fact, we could use more of it. And if mom and dad are making the car pymts, insurance, etc. at anytime, the camera could stay into adulthood for that matter.
  14. If it's the parents car then yes. If the student is responsible and pays for the payments or at least insurance then no. I mean, I was a safe driver. I never sped, used my cell phone or had more than 2 other people in the car with me at one time. I never once had an accident. I made good grades, and was relatively good. I don't think I deserverd to have a monitoring device in the car. It really depends on the teen driving, honestly. The girl that rear-ended you should have her privilage of driving taken away, and one of those cameras installed.
