- One of the reasons for cheaper rates on Classic vehicles is that there are restrictions on when you can drive them. Most companies only allow travel to and from auto shows as a covered time-line.
- It is in general cheaper but only applies to vehicles registered as classic or historic. To get this plate the car must be pre 1986 25 years old, and must NOT be a daily driver. Cars with these plates are Owned in collections or are used in parades or auto shows for the most part. When and where you drive them is restricted as well. The insurance therefore is cheap as these cars are hardly ever driven and when they are they are driven with Extreme care. So yes as long as your golf mk2 is made in the first 3 years of production and you treat it as a show car, no mods it can get the plate. Though as its your first car they probably wont let you.
