How many days do you have to transfer your car insurance to a new vehicel?
I bought a car on friday and didn't transfer my insurance because the office was closed, i took it up north and hit a deer and it caught fire should it be covered?

- I would do it ASAP just to make sure you are covered. that just makes a big loophole for the insurance co.
- That was an incredibly dumb idea. Sorry, but you should have done it immediately. Good news is that your existing policy should cover it. Call your agent PRONTO and get this sorted out.
- No it shouldn't be covered I am afraid. You should have called the same day you bought the car. Insurance companies have an 800 # 24hrs/7days a week. Some companies, you have to call 24 hrs before you can get covered. I think you are responsible for all damage. Good luck!
- It varies from state to state. BUT, Wednesday is a typical business day SO CALL YOUR INSURANCE ON WEDNESDAY.......
- it's not covered if there is no insurance on it. you could have added it over the phone. even if you didn't have paperwork, it would have still been covered. you are screwed. you hit a deer, and it caught fire?!
- Most states require the insurance to cover up to 30 days.
- I assume you are kidding, and know that you can't drive any vehicle without insurance and that you have zero days. So the deer that caught fire after you hit it is not covered.
- What does your INSURANCE POLICY say about adding a new vehicle to the policy??????? Your time limit is stated in your policy.
- It depends on what your policy says. Many auto dealers will include the cost of 30 days of insurance in the price of the car, so that you have time to buy your own.
- Hit a deer AND caught fire? WOW. In MOST states, on most policies, IF you got rid of the old car (traded it in), you have 30 days to notify the insurance company of the new car. If you did NOT get rid of the old car, you have ZERO days - it was uninsured. Also, if you didn't have Comprehensive coverage on the old car, you won't have it on the new one - so it won't be covered. Caveat - not ALL policies have that wording. SOME policies (Progressive comes immediately to mind) have NO time period - but you could have done it over the phone with them, as they have phone centers 24/7. Call your agent, report the claim, and see what happens.
- WHY DON'T YOU JUST CALL YOUR LOCAL DMV OFFICE, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER ANY AND ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS AND AT THE SAME TIME YOU WILL BE GETTING THE CORRECT ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION.
