Is there a way to get cheaper car insurance on show cars, etc?
I have a show car that I barely even drive, but when I do pull it out, I need coverage. Is there a way I can get cheaper insurance on a car that is barely ever on the road?

- when you sit in front of the insurance agent selling you the policy, they will ask you how many miles per year you average. If you drive very few miles per year ON THAT CAR, and you can prove it after 1 year of being with the insurance company, your premium WILL go down. Yes. Other things that will decrease your premium is if you install an alarm on that car (such as LOJACK) and if it is garaged. Don't expect a phenomenal difference though.. however, the answer to your question is YES.
- There are insurance companies who specialize in insuring classic, antique, and exotic vehicles. Sit down with an insurance BROKER, not an agent for a single company, and explain what you want. These specialized companies realize that your car is not often driven, and is parked securely most of the time, so they will give you a lower rate than an insurance company who insures daily drivers.
- You know with Allstate in Texas, I am 56 and pay $33 a month for just liability on my 98 Chrysler van. Down from $59 a year ago. They have the cheapest rates in the long run. Then you could add your show car as a secondary vehicle with just liability on it, if you have too. I think it is $10 or $20 a month extra on mine, cuz then you get the multi car discount. Check them out. You can also have full coverage on you main car and just minimal on your show car.
- Yes, when you ask for a quote tell them that you barely drive it. You may want to try getting a quote online. I am paying less than ½ of what I was before. Go to: http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=615451&Type=auto Take care, Casey
