How up to date is DMV information used by Car Insurance?
Hi, California DMV screwed up my driver's record causing my car insurance premium to go up. Now DMV says the problem is corrected, but agent (Farmers) says their direct access to DMV record says it's not corrected. How up-to-date is the information they're accessing? Are they really accessing DMV or some 3rd party supplier like ChoicePoint? Thanks

- Not sure about Cali. but in Florida they have direct access to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and are looking at the most up to date information. If your dmv is telling you something different then have them print you out the correct information and try forwarding that to your insurance agent
- IN SOME STATES IT CAN TAKE 30 TO 90 DAYS FOR THE INFORMATION TO BE UP-TO-DATE.
- most agents have direct access nowadays. if the dmv is telling you its corrected and your agent says it is not in whatever system they use, go to the dmv and request an updated copy of your record. take it to your agent and they should be able to use it. if they cannot fix the problem on your policy after that...find a new agent!!!!
